In His Presence

I simply stood arrested

By the beauty of his eyes

And a silence that attested

To a god from greater skies

Descended to uplift us

Out of mind's infirmity,

Around his head the nimbus

Of heaven's theocracy.

With the homage of my heart

I offered the secret place

Asking never to depart

From His majesty of Grace.

I prayed for a vast surrender

As earth's to its brilliant sun

And saw in his gaze the tender

Sweetness of the One.

Now all my days descry

The working of his will,

Our nature to sanctify

Our lives with God fulfil.
